“Canvaswork” Cross Stitch Pendant

Byzantine Stitch Pendant

Here is the pendant I finished after reading the RSN book on Canvaswork. It’s byzantine stitch with 6 strands of embroidery floss. I’m really happy with the look, especially of the unfinished edges. At first I thought to fill it, but after finishing the lower side, I hated it so much I unpicked all of it.

This pendant is once again from the Workroom in Toronto. I did the first one in cross stitch last year, and I still have one pendant to go. Maybe I should try a bargello stitch on that one?

Oh my gosh I LOVE this! I have a bunch of laser cut pendants and I always cross stitch them. I never thought to try any needlepoint stitches! What size needle do you use? The pendants I have need a 28 needle so I can’t imagine being able to fit 6 strands.

I swear, if I had not been looking at the pendant, then the book, then the pendant, then the book, I would have never put it together. I used a size 10 embroidery needle. I want to try with yarn next, though I don’t know if the size 20 needle will go through.
